We got your comment about dog food recipes. The book we got the recipe from is only for cats, but there’s an identical book by the same author for dogs, “The Veterinarians’ Guide to Natural Remedies for Dogs” by Martin Zucker. I’m sure it has similar dog food recipes. It’s available on Amazon.com, but I bought mine at our local bookstore, so you might find it there.

I feed my cats primarily the homemade recipe, but I’ve been adding maybe half a packet or small can of commercial food to it, and putting out some kibble for Rocky, who is the only one who likes dry food. Unfortunately, I was using Nutro packets before the recall. No one has gotten sick so far and my vet says if they were going to we’d see symptoms by now. I’m not sure I trust that, but it would cost more than $1000 to test all our cats!

Now I’m using Spa Select from PetSmart. But I see today that the Spa Select dry hairball formula and kitten formula have been recalled, so I’m not sure I’ll continue, even though mine weren’t getting those formulas.

I’m thinking I might try to locate several reputable cat nutritionists to double check the homemade recipe I’m using to make sure they’re getting all the nutrients they need, and feeding them homemade food exclusively from now on. So I’ll be looking for homemade recipes for dry kibble, too.

This whole thing is a nightmare! I think all we cat bloggers should get together and start a homemade catfood business!
